Which format should I use?

JPG works almost everywhere and is ideal for photographs. PNG is useful for graphics, screenshots, and transparency. WebP can provide smaller files while keeping strong image quality.

What happens to transparency?

PNG and WebP can preserve transparent areas. JPG cannot; transparent pixels are placed on a white background during JPG conversion.

Format problems solved

Switch image formats without changing dimensions.

Convert between JPG, PNG, and WebP when a site or workflow accepts one image format but not another.

JPG

Best for broad compatibility and photographic images. JPG does not preserve transparency.

PNG

Useful for graphics, screenshots, and images that need transparency. PNG output is lossless.

WebP

A modern web-friendly format that can reduce file size while maintaining strong visual quality.

What happens to transparency?

PNG and WebP can preserve transparent areas. If you convert a transparent image to JPG, the transparent area must become a solid background because JPG does not support transparency.
